Troll Tips for your visit to Lilidorei

  • Appropriate Clothing & Weather

Lilidorei is located outdoors in a magical forest of 1500 Christmas trees, so please come dressed for the weather – it is Northumberland after all!

Depending on the weather, here are some of our recommendations:

    • Waterproofs
    • Warm clothing
    • Suitable footwear (trainers are fine but no high heels, please!)
    • Sun cream
    • Sun hats
    • Spare clothing – with lots of climbing and sliding you may want a spare change of clothes in case you get a bit muddy!

The structure also includes some small spaces and multiple slides, please ensure that children are dressed appropriately to minimise friction burns from the slides.

In extreme weather we may have to temporarily close some areas of the play structure, your safety is our top priority – so we will only do this when we feel conditions may be too unsafe to play in.

In the event Lilidorei must close completely due to bad weather, we will make an announcement via our social media channels. We will also email those that are booked to visit on the day of the closure to explain your options in line with our Extreme Weather Promise.

  • Session timing

We advise that you book online in advance to avoid disappointment, because there are limited spaces and on busy days they can book up quick! You are welcome to stay as long as you wish and arrive anytime within your slot, but you will have to exit Lilidorei by the end time stated on your booking confirmation. We recommend that you spend at least 1 hr 30 minutes in Lilidorei. *

Children must always be accompanied by an adult in the village, our clans are not responsible for them!

    *Session timing may vary

Your play session is the time slot that you book at checkout.

  • Playing in the structure

Your safety is our top priority at all times and there will be Secret Keepers (staff) in the village and on the play structure itself to help you during your visit. If you have any queries whatsoever please do speak to them.

Our magical play structure is 26m high which seems scary – but it has been designed and checked by experts so it is safe. We want there to be something for everyone – our aim is to encourage children of different abilities to play together. There are bridges, ladders and swings to swing on as well as towers to climb and six different slides to descend. Mind your head as some of parts of the structure are tiny and you have to duck.
Your bravery can be put to the test to see how far and high you can go but do not worry – if you don’t quite fancy sliding down a 24m slide then there is still plenty else to keep you entertained.

There are 3 simple sliding rules:

    • Cross your arms and legs. Let yourself slide – don’t use your feet/legs to slow down.
    • Only one person at a time. Allow the person in front time to get off the slide before you start.
    • Age/Size. The 26 metre high play structure gets more challenging the higher you go up but there is something for everyone. You must be able to climb up to the highest slide by yourself to be big enough to go down it.

You can watch a short video to find out more about the Play Structure HERE

FAQs

  • What is Lilidorei?

Lilidorei (pronounced Lil-ee-door-ee), is a magical village ruled by Lord Elfwin from high up in his tower Elfwin Drin (which happens to be the largest play structure in the world, don’t you know!). Lilidorei is home to our 9 clans – some friendly, some troublesome, who spend the entire year preparing for Christmas!

Despite their HUGE presence within Lilidorei, humans do not have the powers to physically see them! Fear not, it’s your job to work out the secrets of Lilidorei and create your own story of the mysteries that lie within this magical village.

Lilidorei aims to create an environment that encourages both imaginary and physical play. Although you cannot see our mystic creatures that live here, you may hear them when walking round our immersive soundscape that has been created and you can peep in the clan’s habitats and find out more about how they live!

  • Storytelling and Activities

Dotted around the village, lives our 9 clans, and our team of Secret Keepers bring the magical village to life with storytelling and activities for different age groups every day.

Wander into a magical immersive soundscape to help you create your own stories of Lilidorei. Some of the clans are good – but some are really bad, meaning some of the sounds could be scary for our youngest visitors so please be aware.

  • Is it Christmas all year at Lilidorei?

Whilst our clans worship Christmas, they do not spend all year celebrating it – that would be tiring! After spending most of the year squabbling, rumour has it all 9 clans of Lilidorei come together at Christmas from mid-November. Christmas is a truly magical and peaceful time, where everyone gets on. Before then, well, all hell breaks loose sometimes. Some like the Fairies are helping Elfwin Drin, the ruler of Lilidorei. Others, like the Goblins and Hobgoblins are troublesome, and can sometimes come across a little scary to some smaller visitors. It can be pandemonium, especially at Halloween!

  • What age is Lilidorei suitable for?

Lilidorei is aimed at ages 11 and under, but we have seen grown adults enjoying the slides as much as the children!

  • How does the Combined Ticket work?

Our Combined Ticket allows visitors to experience the magical play village of Lilidorei alongside the tranquil Alnwick Garden on the same day. For Lilidorei, you will still need to book your play session and you can arrive any time within your chosen slot but must leave by the end time of your play session. When visiting The Garden, you can come and go as you please on the day your ticket is valid for!

Please note Combined Tickets cannot be upgraded to any other offer.

  • I’m a Founder Member, how do I book?

Founder Members still have to book their play session. Click here to book!

  • Can I bring dogs?

For the safety of all our visitors, only assistance dogs are allowed into Lilidorei.

All recognised guide, assistance, or service dogs – including assistance dogs in training  are welcome into Lilidorei at The Alnwick Garden. We ask that they are recognisable, with a lead or harness that identifies them as working.

  • Is there carers discount or Max Card?

Our Max Card offer is £8 per adult and children free. This is for a maximum of 2 adults and 2 children per Max Card and not to be used in conjunction with any other offer. To book Max Card entry please phone 01665 511350, option 1*
